Life As A Commoner – Tamaki visits a commoner anime convention!

Monday, April 6th, 2009

In “Life As A Commoner,” fabulously wealthy Ouran High School Host Club king Tamaki Suoh visits a commoner anime convention and makes some observations about our impoverished, unsophisticated lifestyle. A fun cosplay video skit to be enjoyed by fans of Ouran High School Host Club, Death Note and anime convention attendees… “Do you know how much that is in Rich People money??”

Christine, Tara and Meph are friends of ours from the Boston MA cosplay meetup group. This video was shot at ConnectiCon 2008.

Naka-Kon. Was. Awesome.

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Naka-Kon 2009, in Kansas City Missouri was a fantastic weekend. We flew in Thursday night, and went out to eat at the revolving restaurant on the top floor of the hotel, accompanied by some other convention guests. Had some fun and, um interesting conversations… What happens at the con stays at the con. Anyway, being up on the 39th floor was quite epic. Check out these aerial views of Kansas City:

Sweet view. Our concert was Friday evening. I could not believe it, but we had a huge crowd. I’ve played shows at conventions in the past where I thought the room was gonna be packed and ended up being empty, and this made up for all of those! I thoroughly had a great time rocking out onstage, and the audience was great. Wow, if only all gigs could be this good! Here are some performance shots:

The other thing that made Naka-Kon really special for me was finally getting to meet Nate (our music video animator) in person. Seriously, we had been working together for over a year and this was the first time we met in real life. I got to go on a tour of Kansas City and check out his awesome living space (where a party was going on.)

On Saturday, Nate and I did a panel on the making of ‘Yuri The Only One’ again to a surprisingly large crowd.  I learned for the first time ever that the music video contains subliminal messages! It was unbelievable. Again, I want to keep some thing a secret (so that people can learn the truth at conventions we attend.) I will say that if you slow down to individual frames when the meteor hits, it says something special.

Matt and Nate, together at long last!

Props: Shota, Jon and Akash for great performances. Tyler for booking us and taking amazing care of us. Lear for being an incredible sound guy. Sierra for helping us out with whatever we needed. Pinky for being a rock star. Samanth for the live photographs. Everyone else we met for making us feel like rockstars. Anyone I forgot. Naka-Kon. Was. AWESOME!!!!

Update: I found some concert footage on YouTube:

Bleach Marriage Proposal

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Hey — Matt here. Unfortunately I’m not feeling so hot health-wise this week, which is why I’ve been slow to update. I’m hoping I’ll still be good to go for PortCon.

So anyway, Anime Boston was as epic and amazing as always. Some of the highlights for me personally this year were hanging out with friends at ballroom dance and rave dance, participating in the Goldeneye N64 tournament, meeting fans and signing autographs. But the most exciting part of the con was seeing my friend Joe propose to his girlfriend Sarah during the masquerade, in front of 5,000 people:

Joe, Sarah, and some more friends recorded the audio for this skit at my studio earlier this year. What Sarah didn’t know is that Joe secretly came back and changed the original ending of the skit to include the marriage proposal. The skit involves excerpts from the Japanese Bleach musical, and Joe ultimately breaks the fourth wall (as indicated by taking off his wig.)

Joe and Sarah, if you’re reading this I’m very happy for both of you, and I want to say another huge congratulations. I was biting my nails when I knew it was about to happen! I’m glad I was able to be a part of it by helping record the audio for the piece. I wish you the best from here to come!

Has anyone else besides me seen a marriage proposal take place at an anime convention? Respond in comments below.

Attention New Jersey Fans!

Going to AnimeNext this coming weekend? Looking to pick up our album? Well then, good news! It will be available in the Dealers Room (Black Knight Comics) and Artists Alley (Zodi-ACK! Productions.) It was great that we sold as many copies as we did at Anime Boston (without doing a show,) and we understand that not every fan has a credit card and can buy music online.

On a side note, if anyone reading this is an anime dealer or knows an anime dealer who is interested in distributing our album, please contact us. We are especially looking to partner with dealers located outside the northeastern United States region.

“Guitar Hero Hero” dun-dun-done!!!!

This week we give a special shout-out to emoprinceSASUKE23, who made a very cool AMV for “Masquerade.” So cool, in fact, that it got over 50,000 plays on YouTube! Congrats!

Without looking at the info section on the YouTube page, can you name all the anime clips used in the video?
