Man Marries Video Game Girlfriend IRL
This past weekend in Japan, a man married his girlfriend from the Konami dating sim Love Plus for Nintendo DS. This is the first ever real life marriage between a human and a video game. They actually had a real wedding ceremony, with friends giving speeches, a DJ, and it was televised online. Pretty remarkable!
Most otaku have probably fantasized about marrying an anime or video game character at one point or another. But to actually do this? Crazy, awesome, or pathetic??
What do you — as an otaku — think about this story?
I think its verry sad. The man is so unatatched from the real world, he thinks he can marry a fictional caracter. I mean, i would love to marry krisal from starfox, but i know shes just a concept a game designer came up with and cant love me back. As sutch, in all seriusness, i think that man is not stable and needs mental help.
I feel happy for the guy, and I don’t think its pathetic at all, but hes probably not going to be having many kids. it would be really cool if the game designers made some virtual kids for them, cause if they did then I might consider doing this.
i don’t think this man can be considered otaku anymore we need to make up a level above it
I think it’s just pathetic… Although I can name a dozen anime guys I’d like to marry, I know I never will because they don’t really exist. He needs to realize that she is not real and only a character.
This is crazy awesome pathetic, but seriously I wonder what was going through his head, and this can’t possibly be legal can it?
wow…
I’m happy for the guy. We can’t match the same feelings because we don’t have his mind set, and calling him crazy is an opinion. There was a guy who married a cow in Wisconsin, but no one called him sad or crazy.
@Dez Thats different, the cow is a living thing but a game caracter is not.
He might not have been as serious as he was acting, its more funny then anything, I mean seriously, his friends were there supporting him, if this was just a joke his friends would have been talking him out of it probably.
…I think it’s sad, because he will never really get anything out of such a pointless marriage.
Not love, but maybe some obscure form of happiness on his own terms? But really? Living and growing old with a video game character? Will she cook for him? Take care of him? She’s got her own world, and this guy needs to realize he’s got his.
I think it’s pathetic, but it’s fun to think about the semantics.
What if he turns off the DS or the batteries run out? Is it neglect?
If someone else plays the game, is he being cheated on?
And think about what the priest thought, or the lawyer? And his parents.
It’s things like this that make me HOPE that the world ends in 2012.
I don’t want THIS to be what damns the human race.
But hopefuly the LeetStreet Boys will come out with another album by then.
and what happens when he wants to marry a real life woman?
I REALLY hope that’s all it is. A joke. A big “Just screwing with you” to people who take this game too far. Now if it was a persacom I could understand….
THERE IS HOPE…
..
….

OMG! IF THINGS DONT WORK OUT WITH MY GF I HAVE A SAFETY NET! lol JK
